Momma Bear Mode
For most of my life, my first instinct when someone shared a problem was to fix it.
Not because I thought I knew better.
Not because I wanted control.
But because I care deeply.
I’m what many people affectionately call a “Momma Bear.”
When someone I love is hurting, overwhelmed, confused, or stressed, something in me immediately rises and says, “Okay, let’s figure this out.”
For a long time, I believed that was a strength.
And in many ways, it is.
But over time, I began to notice something that felt both important and uncomfortable.
When Helping Quietly Takes Away Power
My reflex to solve problems wasn’t always serving the other person the way I intended.
Sometimes:
People didn’t want answers, they needed space to vent.
My advice unintentionally disrupted their own insight.
I walked away emotionally depleted, holding weight that wasn’t mine.
Others felt cared for, but not fully empowered.
Even as a Health Coach, especially as a Health Coach, I had to confront this truth:
Providing answers can sometimes prevent people from discovering their own.
That realization shifted everything.
The Shift: From Fixing to Guiding
Today, I no longer see my role as someone who delivers solutions.
Instead, I walk alongside people guiding, supporting, and creating space for clarity to emerge.
I don’t provide specific answers or tell people what they should do.
Rather, as we walk this journey together, answers are uncovered through reflection, curiosity, and alignment with what matters most to them.
Why does this matter?
Because the most effective solution isn’t always the most logical or polished; it’s the one a person feels grounded, confident, and aligned choosing for themselves.
When people discover their own answers:
They trust themselves more.
They follow through longer.
They feel ownership instead of dependence.
They build resilience for future challenges.
That kind of growth can’t be handed over; it has to be uncovered.
Releasing “Momma Bear Mode”
Momma Bear mode is born out of love, but it can quietly communicate something unintended:
“I don’t trust you to handle this without me.”
That’s never my heart, but it can be the impact.
So now, before stepping into conversations, I intentionally pause and remind myself:
This is not an emergency.
This is their experience to walk through.
My role is not to rescue; it’s to create space.
What I Practice Now: Listener Mode
Here’s how I intentionally show up with clients, family, and friends:
I ground myself first.
I reflect instead of redirect.
I guide with thoughtful questions, not quick answers.
I ask permission before offering input.
I release responsibility for outcomes that aren’t mine to carry.
Why This Matters in Health & Wellness
True wellness isn’t about being told what to do.
It’s about learning to listen to yourself again.
When people are given space to:
explore their struggles,
connect with their values,
process out loud,
and choose what genuinely fits their lives,
they build confidence, self‑trust, and sustainable habits.
As a Health Coach, my role isn’t to be the expert with all the answers.
It’s to walk beside you, ask powerful questions, and help you reconnect with the wisdom you already carry.
A Gentle Word for Fellow Caregivers & Fixers
If you’re someone who naturally jumps into helper mode, hear this:
You are not wrong for caring.
You are not failing by stepping back.
You are not abandoning someone by allowing them to struggle.
Sometimes the most loving message we can offer, silently or out loud, is: “I trust you.”
And sometimes the most powerful form of support is presence, not solutions.
If this resonates, know this: you’re not alone.
Learning to listen instead of fix is a practice one that leads to healthier boundaries, deeper connection, and lasting growth.
Ready to Be Guided, Not Fixed?
If you’re tired of being told what you should do,
If you’re craving support that honors your values, your pace, and your lived experience,
If you want to build wellness from the inside out, not from someone else’s rulebook,
This is the work I do.
As a Health Coach, I don’t offer one‑size‑fits‑all answers, because they don’t exist.
Instead, I partner with you to clarify what matters most, explore what’s getting in the way, and uncover solutions that feel aligned, sustainable, and true to you.
You already hold wisdom within you.
My role is to help you tune into it, trust it, and take steps forward at your pace.
✨ If you’re ready to explore a values‑based approach to health and wellness, I’d be honored to walk alongside you.
